What happens when I bring my child to TOTS?

Our service is very individualised to the person, so everyone’s process will look a little bit different. In general, we will make an initial appointment [1 hour in duration] and send out some paperwork to fill in and return prior to your appointment so that we can get to know your child and their situation.

At your appointment the occupational therapist will greet you and your child. The room will be setup with some toys and activities that children like to do. At first the occupational therapist will play with your child and help make them feel calm and settled. We then turn our focus on you to ask questions regarding your child’s current abilities and discuss your concerns.

Whilst this is happening we will also keep your child busy with activities and toys. This is part of our job. We are very good at observing your child’s abilities and talking with you at the same time. We are making notes about your child as they play and explore the activities we give them. Once we have all our information from you, we then will play with your child to gain further understanding regarding their skills and abilities.

From then, we work out a plan going forward based on your specific needs, and our journey begins.

How can I claim for my visit?

We are registered providers through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). We have HICAPS facilities to claim private health rebates, and EFTPOS on site. We also work with insurance agencies and other health care schemes as necessary.

I have NDIS funding, how will this work?

We are registered NDIS Providers. Contact us for an appointment.

Do I need a referral?

You do not need a specific referral from a GP or paediatrician to access OT services! Medicare based clients will need a referral to claim this benefit.

How do I give feedback?

We always ensure we meet standards for healthcare best practice, including providing clients with the ability to give feedback. If you email us at [email protected], we can provide you with our feedback form.
